The biggest challenge in a meaningful life is to know that you are powerful when you become known as someone who helps others. I have been influenced by many people in my life and have looked up to so many people that it has caused me to think that I am always the one being helped and don’t deserve or know enough to be that person for someone else. There have been times when I felt like a leader but that wasn’t because I was doing anything to help anyone out, it was just a byproduct of being one of the leading roles in an opera. Being a soloist tends to be a rather selfish lifestyle, and not that that is a bad thing, because you must preserve yourself because there are a lot of people depending on you. But, I can’t say that I have ever done much for others in that role, or any other role for that matter.

Asking for help in life is important in order to get better and having a lot of people giving you suggestions about how you need to do things but at some point you must offer yourself to others and reach out. It is amazing how helping others makes the person doing the helping stronger. Here in Germany you see out of work, down on their luck types of people, probably hooked on alcohol or drugs who have pets. That always was strange to me because they can’t take care of themselves how are they going to take care of a dog, but usually, the dog seems very content and healthy. Either they have the dog for their protection or they get some sort of good feeling having a dog to help or take care of.
