The Government is the Garden of our Lives
What does that mean?
I never really understood government until this year. What is it and why should we care?
The government is like a garden. It is the very foundation of our lives. Government determines the type of life we can lead. It is the earth of our lives.
For the past 250 years, America has benefitted from the Constitution and the morality of living by laws chose from the people with a consistent motivation of individual liberty for all. It has progressively made people more free than they were before. Everything we do and are, we get because of that Constitution and the laws that create a level playing field for all.
History has long proven how a bad government can destroy a nation and how a good government can build it. Government is never perfect because people aren't perfect, but if we all follow that basic idea of "individual freedoms and rights" then we can live full lives in freedom.
Government is about 'getting the job done.' All 'jobs' within the government are temporarily filled. The elected officials turn over, or should turn over, more often than employees. So, when electing someone to office, they should be applying for a job, rather than spewing some sort of ideological BS.
The "office" needs to be served by someone who is there to do that job. But, anymore, we are choosing our elected officials not because they can do the job, but because they are someone's minion of are a member of a cult.
The other factor about a garden, is the gardener. Whoever works in the garden determines how well the crops do. A wise gardener can only water, weed, and till the garden. The gardener has no hand in producing the food itself. That the plants do. The plants do well if the garden is well managed and the gardener wise.
That is what government is. It is the very earth beneath our feet, the air we breathe, and the water and food we consume. It determines our well being more than just about anything else. Government doesn't tell us how to live, it should make living freely, possible.
Just do the job. Just do the job. Just do the damn job.
