Toppers Were A Couple Of Turnovers Away From A Historic Season

Turnovers Kept The Tops From The Top

In football no statistic is more crucial than the great T-O.  Turnovers can make or break any game by any team in any given situation.

For the 2013 Edition of the Pitino Tops, turnovers literally lost them the conference title and a trip to another bowl.  All things being equal, the Tops would have been undefeated in the Sun Belt, ending with a 11-1.

Of all the turnovers that changed the course of history for the Tops this season, I doubt if anyone would argue that Doughty’s pick six against ULaLa set the stage for deciding who would win the conference.  The two take aways from Henry were also factors, but the defining play of the year was that pick six.

The most disturbing part abou that play was that Andrews was WIDE open in the end zone on that play, a hail mary in his direction would have been 6 for the Tops.

But, if if if if if….it doesn”t matter.

Looking back, if the Tops had one less turnover in their games they lost, they would have won.

Turnovers are a part of football, and the reason 3rd downs are so critical in games  is, it chews up the clock so the other team can’t score.

Have a good one!
