Is that true? Write about your experience in life and share how you feel and think about things and then look at it as if in a mirror and ask yourself, “Is that true?”

Maybe long titles are wrong, but I want people to know what the article I am writing is about.

I have strayed away from my mission and want to get back on it. My mission is to help people find their purpose through finding their mission, in this case an artistic mission.

I am a musician. I am a musician before I am a singer or writer. Music is my muse. But, I love writing, acting and producing content…publishing if you will.

The challenges I have had in my life have led me away from my art, my music.

The overload of teaching music appreciation, taking care of my folks and trying to get other things that are important done as well all have distracted me from my music making, for example piano, exercising and getting a major project off the ground, the Independent Musicians Institute.

I feel a bit like a baby sitter for my Dad now that my mother has passed away. I feel the increased responsibility for all of the things my mother and father built up during their lives and am impressed by their results. However, when I analyze it, it is fairly modest if you consider that much of what they accomplished was due to the family farm that made the difference in their lives. Everyday, we say a prayer of thanks for it and have no confusion on the fact of it’s value to us.

All of my efforts over the past several years have been unorganized and so the days, weeks and months pass away and nothing much gets done. If I am going to make any progress I think the only way to do that is to set some benchmarks, analyze how I am going to reach them and schedule the actions necessary to achieve them.

As artistpreneurs we think that our music making won’t make us much income. But that is only because we lack a plan and a schedule for it.

When I look at one of my favorite music groups, “Harpeth Rising” I see the years of hard work, the schedule of concerts they now have lined up and while they may not be making major bucks yet, they are doing well, because they have a schedule for their success.

Performing is a hard way to make a living, but it also takes you places and exposes you to people over time and increases your social and industry network.

So, I have strayed from my title, but have I?

Is what I have said true? Yes I think it is.

Fact is, action is the only way out of any situation. Action is another word for “work”. If you I going to be an artistpreneur then it is my “job” to do the actions necessary to hit the benchmarks or not do it and work on someone else’s benchmarks.

The fact is, nobody can have your dream, your mission and nobody else understands more than you how you want things to be.

Set benchmarks, plan actions, take account of those you meet and spread your mission out into the world.

Life is like a snowball, it grows only when you keep rolling, gathering steam, momentum and size. Eliminating things that take you away from your heart is of utmost importance.
