"Being creative is enough."

Boredom, laziness and procrastination

January 22, 2016

Boredom, laziness and procrastination are all related to the belief that any action you may take won’t create a compelling result.

Why mow the lawn? The grass is just going to grow again.

Why exercise? The more I exercise, the more I am going to have to exercise to keep fit.

Why do the taxes? I won’t get anything back from them.

Why even work? I don’t make enough money at my job to pay for anything I want, just what I have to have.

Why clean house? It is just going to get dirty again?

The feeling of futility in life is a sign of depression. Anyone can have it, and it doesn’t mean that you are a bad person.

It may have biological or physiological causes, like a sleep disorder, a liver disorder or some sort of thyroid problem. There may be some sort of chemical imbalance in the brain, or a damaged area of the brain which causes it to underperform, leaving you feeling bad.

Of course these problems could be purely psychological. Some sort of inability to calm the mind down to the point where it can focus on one thing for a long period of time.

Or it could be that you just don’t want to make a plan for yourself and won’t stick to it even if you do make one.

The fact is, life is full of mundane tasks. Tasks that are necessary just to keep a certain standard of living. They seem unimportant in comparison to the things that you are compelled to do.

The mundane tasks won’t make you a better athlete, artist, philosopher or even make you any money.

So, what can we do to give the mundane tasks a value which will make it easier for us to do them?

Fun.

The only way to make mundane tasks worth doing is to have fun doing them. How do you do that?

You do that by crunching. Crunching is the ability to multi-task so that you can get several things done at once.

It is difficult to have fun by yourself, but if you don’t have someone else to have fun with, how can you have fun?

Well, if you are cleaning house, does it not help to play music while you are doing it?

Going to a garage where mechanics are working on cars, it seems they always have the radio playing, don’t they?

If you are doing office work, light classical or jazz playing in the background seems to be the best music to soothe the nerves when doing it.

Exercising is often done to music, to get into a rhythm and make the exercise enjoyable by listening to fun music.

Music is a great thing because it takes up no space. It weighs nothing. Everything, even armies perform better when music is added to the experience.

For me, music is an end unto itself, and having fun with music, playing with music and using music to communicate meaning are all elements of what makes music so great. I believe it is an indispensable part of life.

If you can’t concentrate, sit down, relax and listen to music. It is the best meditation you can have. If you can’t sit down and just listen to music because the music disturbs you then you aren’t picking the right music to listen to.

Finding the music that serves what you need in any given moment, can help you get things done in life that need to get done.

Without music, my life would have been on long drudgery. Music made my life worth living. I highly recommend it as a tool to help you perform in life.
