I'm not really one to comment on political stuff, but the times somehow dictate my thoughts. Besides, what do I know? Nothing. Still, I feel it compelling to explore things that come to mind as a result of the tumult we are experiencing right now in the US. Regardless about how anyone thinks about it, it is definitely going to change things for the future and I am hoping beyond hope that it will turn out well. Right now, it is difficult to see how.
There is never a good time to take risks with the security of a nation. When the worldwide capabilities of the military being what they are today it probably isn't a good idea to weaken yourself and leave yourself open for attack by self-sabotaging your position in the world. I can't fathom how it is good to start a trade war with your closest allies and cause ill will all around when there is such unrest in the world. Placing NATO at risk by threatening to pull out, then on top of that stating that the US annex Canada as it's 51st state, take Greenland and take over control of the Panama Canal are all probably not the way to instill confidence in our allies and above that it will embolden enemies to take action because of our weakened alliances...and for what? Nothing.
Evidently, now that Musk has taken his belligerent chainsaw to the American government he is going to leave at the end of May. He claims to have shaved off 1 Trillion Dollars from the Budget Deficit. Maybe it is a good thing. I'm not really smart enough to know that. It is hard to see how this is all going to play out.
The US will have an increased deficit in travel industry with other nations now that Trump has offended every ally we have that supports our travel industry to begin with. I'm not sure what he thinks he is accomplishing with all of this and his merry band of henchmen seem not to care what happens as long as they get theirs.
The point here being that we are leaving ourselves vulnerable to attack and I'm not sure we will be able to find anyone to help us out when that happens. As powerful as the US military is, it isn't omnipotent and what's more, I'm not sure the US Military will do the bidding of this President as he thinks they will. I don't know what to think about this part of the scenario.
If the goal is to tear everything down to build it back up again, well, they are doing a great job at that. The only problem is, it may not be recoverable. This could, and probably will, weaken the US for decades to come. Within the borders of the US there is a disturbing movement to cover our eyes to the realities of history and to go back to the old prejudices of the past all in the name of MAGA. In those ways, American was never great. In fact, much of American history could be viewed as shameful and the only way to redeem our history is to have learned from it and to improve because of it. Going back to it is only going to hurt us domestically and more so internationally.
We are in the middle of this right now and it has only been 2 months since the inauguration. The US Government has never looked uglier than it does right now but maybe the truth about America is coming out of the woodworks. Maybe the only thing that matters are the Oligarchs, the political power plays, the heavy use of intimidation and eliminating freedoms that have been so difficult to acquire. Maybe the people are to be ground down into insignificant surfs and making the populace so weak it can never again stand up to a tyrannical regime. Then we'll have the end of American democracy and a return to the very thing that the American Revolution did to end.
I'm not at all optimistic about our future. I hope I'm wrong. Very wrong.
