Harpeth Rising is an all around original. Become a fan!
I met Jordana Greenberg during a rehearsal in 2008 in Bowling Green. In rehearsing with orchestras for so many years you begin to see things about the players that you couldn’t see before. Jordana was a violinist who played with a lot of passion, that was evident.
At the time she was a faculty member at Western Kentucky University and is a very fine violinist in the classical realm. When I first heard the music of Harpet Rising, I was amazed how good they were, not only instrumentally and vocally, but the quality of the music they wrote was not like anything else in the ”Bluegrass” realm.
I like Bluegrass music, because it is very authentic, but there are some things I don’t much care for and that is straight toned ”fiddle” playing. Jordana doesn’t play like that, she plays beautifully, with spirit and the whole band plays with a great vibe. Harpeth Rising claims a niche in the ”Americana” market, which is a synthesis of American musical styles.
The combination of instruments, the harmony between the members and the fact that they are simply awesome people places them at the very top of my music recommendations for people to listen to and watch.
I wish them much success and I give them the Platinum Star for the Boredom to Brilliance Seal of Approval!
