There is a principle difference between professional sports and college sports and it is the importance of the players versus the coaches, and those invisible guys in the back office.
In college sports the coach is king and in professional sports the players are the kings, even if they don’t earn what the owners earn.
Players are traded on an open market, they are commodities to be bought and sold. But, there are players who move the needle for teams in each sport. Guys like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Lebron James, Peyton Manning, Larry Bird, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodrigez. Wherever those guys go to play, people go to watch, and a franchise that can lure them to their team knows that just because they are on the floor, their profits will go up.
When players sign a contract, they hold up the jersey and stand to take pictures, the team says “Look who is on the team!”
Affiliate and Network Marketing companies like to do the same thing. They love to have people who are known sign up in their company, because it adds to their credibility. Just recently a world famous golf pro joined a company and was presented to their convention. They are saying, “Look who joined our company.” as well.
I was scrolling through the Facebook group page of the Extreme Team, and am so impressed by the people in it. There are some very good players on this team and those who haven’t done much yet in this business are still great team members because they bring a high level of credibility to the team.
Look who is on our team! It is a very impressive group. Isn’t that a great calling card for your business?
There is another aspect of this idea that shouldn’t be overlooked.
We need to value ourselves as a prized member of the team. We need to see ourselves as a calling card for others to say, hey look, he or she is on our team. Each of us is an important member of the team because it adds to the dynamic and quality of the team.
All business is a people business so it is people wanting to join people so they can succeed that helps a business grow.
Show off your team and your pride in them as well as in the jersey you are wearing.
