Napoleon Hill’s epic book Think and Grow Rich chooses only that title because it is important that you think only in the direction of becoming rich. But the book really teaches that your life is what you have thought it into being, and it is just as easy to think and become poor, if not easier, because if you take a look around, most people are in fact poor.
The chapter about faith has as it’s quote,
”Whatever the mind of man can believe and conceive, it can achieve.”
If you turn this quote around it becomes,
”Whatever you have achieved, is a direct result of what you have believed and conceived in your mind.”
It is common to think that our lives have been predestined to be what we have, but is that really true? We have chosen our life. Whether consciously or unconsciously, we have what we have agreed to.
The fact is, the journey to a better life begins in thoughts, and since your present life is a result of your thoughts, then it is going to take an incredible force of will to override your ”automated” thoughts with ”purpose driven” thoughts.
Think and Grow Rich is not only about money, although the point of the book is to be able to take your idea and transform that into money, but about retraining your entire being into a positive force of good in the world.
To change the world, you have to change your world, inside. You sleep 8 hours a day, work 8 hours a day and do whatever 8 hours a day, but the job of retraining your mind is a 24/7/365 job. It requires an intense focus everyday to retrain your thoughts so you can become not only rich, but successful in life.
In the chapter on organized planning there is the section on self evaluation which goes through the 31 major causes of failure. What it asks you to look at is your habits and if your habits are doing any of these things. I am sure that most people are doing most of those things.
But, these are symptoms, not the disease. The disease and the cure are the same and that is ”What You Think.” If you think and focus on the right things, the wrong things will not come up.
Think and concentrate, meditate and focus like your life depends on it, hold on to the faith that the good is the truth and that the negative is the Devil’s doing.
Write it down, speak it out, pray on it and repeat it, repeat it, repeat it until it becomes a part of your fiber.
Salvation is granted only to those who save themselves from their own crippling thoughts. It is a practice, it is a mastery of skill, it is a way of life. Everything that is done, must be done ON PURPOSE, not by chance.
This may seem like a bit much, but really, if you don’t lead your life with a purpose, then your life has no purpose and you get what life decides to give you.
Now, I will say that there are millions on earth who are not in control of their destiny, due to their environment. These souls have little chance of ever hearing such a message. It wouldn’t occur to them to do so many things on their own, they are thirsty, hungry and diseased. Being alive is a struggle, excelling isn’t even thought of there.
There is a lot to do and it all begins with choosing what you think and focusing on that. Think and Grow Rich, there is no better way to think, because it is all about becoming a person of value to the world.
