What is it like when you pass through the Pearly Gates?
Of course I don't know, but the thought crossed my mind today in conjunction with a video I saw several years ago of a television show called "This is Your Life" with Muhammad Ali as the subject. Upon watching it again I think it is a good way to think about it and whether it is true or not is not really the point at all. The suggestion this article wishes to make is that I feel we would be well served by having a constant attitude of gratitude for the lives we have led and the people who have contributed to it.
Some spontaneous thoughts come from this video about what happens when you first arrive in heaven.
First of all, the television show didn't muck up the presentation with negativity and some of the wrong things Ali may have done in his life. How does that apply when we get to heaven?
We get to heaven because we have been forgiven of our sins and they have been "washed away", they no longer matter, because we have only good left to show for our lives. So everything presented is positive for you and a recognition of the positive influences that people have had on a persons life.
For that accomplishment when you enter through into heaven the "heavenly hosts", here the audience, gives you a standing ovation and celebrates you for who you are and all that you have done for the world during your life. Everyone gives you a warm welcome and cherishes you for the full extent of your being.
The host then proceeds to "show you your life". Reaching back into your life and revealing those people who were a part of your life by showing you love and encouragement, living and passed, as if it is a great reunion in your honor. Now you can say the things that were left unsaid without speaking a word, for all misunderstandings and conflicts are resolved because all that is left is the connection of spirits who cared about you.
It is a reward for contributing to the good in the world and that everyone who is affected by that is expressing their gratitude and love for it to you.
You get to see your loved ones again. You get to appreciate all that you experienced and the challenges that you overcame.
This is really all I want to share today.
Here is the video of the show. I have no claim to copyright of it.
