Post Op Pop! Phase 3: Recovery

Getting Pops up at about 4 a.m. was as difficult for him as it was for me, but we finally got to the Med Center in due course at about 5:00 a.m. Having said that he was in good spirits, relatively well rested, and in good condition this morning. Simpsons aren’t what you call “Early Risers” by nature, especially when you have to be somewhere at a certain time. The tendency is to hit snooze and miss the appointment altogether. But, alas that didn’t happen!

Dad’s Op, the TAVR: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement procedure started at about 7:20 a.m. more or less and they were done at about 8:30 a.m. or so. He has been transferred to CCU, Cardiac Care Unit, at the Medical Center and is being “brought to the surface” gently. Dad has a tendency to come out of anesthesia like a “Tie Fighter out of Hyper-Space” guns blasting and as mad as Darth Vader.

His procedure went without complication and the new valve is functioning optimally. What they can do now is nothing short of a miracle. Dad doesn’t have a disease, he has functional problems, so it is a physical repair which is less complicated than some sickness.

I’ve got to say, our experience these weeks at the Medical Center have been nothing but optimal. Everyone has been patient, competent, friendly, compassionate and waste no time.

Thanks for your support and prayers these days. It is greatly appreciated!

In my next post I will let people know when it is possible to call Dad. I’d like to make it possible for him to rest as much as possible.
