Heart, Brains, Courage and the Value of Home
I attended an orchestral concert the other day which had the orchestra playing the sound score to the epic historical motion picture ”The Wizard of Oz.” What a wonderful idea to play the music underscoring which accompanies the film and to watch the film above the orchestra. It was a great evening, and brings light to how great the music of the film is, not only the songs, but the incidental music as well.
While watching I thought about the four principle ”needs” that the main characters had, heart, brains, courage and a home. Really, they were a reflection of what they experienced in life, being ignorant, not feeling loved, having crippling fear and a homeless orphan lost in a strange and dangerous world.
The movie illustrates a need that people have to be able to believe in magic, to be able to lock arms with others who have insecurites and to march together united in a quest to help the other’s get what they want while finding what they want.
This is what life is all about, because we all have strengths and weaknesses, and alone we are stuck on a pole in a cornfield, never being able to stand on our own, or frozen by the rains of life, rusting our ability to move from where we are to be where we want to be, or to be so fearful that we won’t risk the smallest challenge to get what we want, need and deserve and that without friends and family we are lost in a cold cruel world.
The truth is we can’t do it alone. We must lock arms with others, out of necessity for help and out of a desire for fulfillment. There is no such thing as a happy or successful loner.
You will not succeed on your own. It is better to join a group of misfits and work together than it is to try and solve your issues by yourself. Better yet, is to join a group of misfits who are successfully finding the Emerald City and getting what they want and deserve out of life.
